5.1 Summary of findings

We can see that Activated Carbon can be used to lower the turbidity level of water,however it has to be used with cotton to trap the fine particles of the Activated Carbon,otherwise,the water would turn black,increasing turbidity levels and this would defeat the purpose,which is to lower the turbidity level.With more layers of Activated Carbon, the turbidity of the pond water has significantly decreased.
With 4 layers,the turbidity level is 6.7 NTU.
Even though the turbidity of the pond water has been significantly decreased, the standard turbidity level of potable water is below 1 NTU. Therefore, we have not yet achieved our target results. 
From the results, we can conclude that it could technically be possible to lower the turbidity level to below 1NTU by increasing the layers.

We also found out that if we increased the height of the layer of activated carbon,but lowered its surface area,the water had a lower turbidity.This is because, the water took more time to flow through the activated carbon and thus the water had lower turbidity,but if the height was lower, but increased surface area,the water took less time to flow through the activated carbon,thus the turbidity was not as low compared to if we had increased its height.

5.2 Practical Applications

This could be used in the design of filters,to build a filter which increases the height of the activated carbon, allowing for the water to be of a lower turbidity.This would increase the effectivity of the filter as the same amount of activated carbon allows for a lower turbidity level. 

5.3 Areas of Further Study

Further study can be done to see how different factors affect the effectiveness of the Activated Carbon and affect the turbidity of the water. Furthermore, different arrangement of the activated carbon can be placed differently to maximise effectiveness and decrease cost.
